ELLA TALKS

ELLA Global Community strives to promote visibility and empowerment by providing positive references of successful lesbian women to our community. To this end we host the ELLA Talks, an event that offers a series of live presentations featuring leaders, experts and entrepreneurs from a wide range of sectors including academia, civil society, politics and the private sector.

ELLA Talks 2015

 

 

The first edition of ELLA Talks “Inspiring to Listen, Inspiring to Tell” took place in Palma, Mallorca, and focused on the role of lesbian women in business and tourism.

  • Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir,Iceland Prime Minister and her wife Jonina Sigurðardóttir

  • Claudia Brind-Woody, Vice President and Managing Director for IBM Global (UK) Intellectual Property

  • Leanne Pittsford, CEO & Founder of Lesbians Who Tech (USA), Gudrun Fertig, CEO & Co-owner of L-MAG, Germany’s leading Lesbian magazine

  • Alice Fauveau, CEO & Founder of the travel enterprise Focus on Women, Inspiring Travels (Spain).

ELLA Talks 2019

As part of the ELLA Festival 2019 held in the vibrant city of Palma de Mallorca, ELLA Talks once again brought together inspiring voices to share their journeys and ideas with the LGBTQ+ community. The 2019 edition featured two remarkable keynote speakers who captivated the audience with their powerful stories, advocacy, and passion for driving change:

  • Monica Benicio: A Brazilian architect and an unwavering advocate for human rights, Monica is also known as the widow of the late Marielle Franco, a prominent Rio de Janeiro Council Member and human rights activist who was tragically murdered in 2018. Monica shared her personal journey of resilience, the ongoing fight for justice, and her commitment to continuing Marielle’s legacy by amplifying the voices of marginalized communities and challenging systemic oppression in Brazil.

  • Daniela Sea: A trans nonbinary activist, accomplished actress, and talented DJ, Daniela is widely recognized for their role in the groundbreaking series The L Word. During their keynote, Daniela spoke about the importance of visibility, the challenges faced by the trans and nonbinary community, and the transformative power of art and storytelling in fostering understanding and social change. They also shared insights into their journey as an artist and activist, using creativity as a tool for empowerment.


ELLA Talks México 2020


The first edition of ELLA Talks in Mexico was held in the charming city of San Miguel de Allende, showcasing inspiring presentations by prominent Mexican activists:

  • Gloria Careaga, a social psychologist and trailblazing LGBTQ+ rights advocate.

  • Patria Jiménez, the first openly lesbian federal congresswoman in Mexico.

  • Luz Elena Aranda, a dedicated member of the ILGA World board.

  • Daniela Sea, a non-binary activist, artist, and DJ.

The event also featured a special panel with the Latin American directors of the ELLA Global Community: Bea Cravioto, Clarena Orozco, and Emma Chacón, moderated by Kristin Hansen, Founder and CEO of ELLA Global Community, and Myrtille Danse, Director of HIVOS Latam.

This gathering marked a significant milestone for ELLA in Latin America, bringing together leaders and activists to foster dialogue, visibility, and empowerment within the LGBTQ+ community.

ELLA Talks Mallorca 2024

 

The ELLA Talks 2024 edition took place in Mallorca, bringing together women leaders from various disciplines who shared their ideas and experiences to inspire change.

Among the notable speakers were:

  • Lady Phyll, activist, co-founder, and executive director of UK Black Pride (United Kingdom), who spoke about equity, diversity, and LGBTQ+ rights.

  • Amanda Currie, prison governor (United Kingdom), who addressed rehabilitation in the prison system.

  • Laura Encina, finance expert (Spain), discussing financial inclusion and economic empowerment.

  • Sara Harrak, film director (United Kingdom), exploring cinema as a driver of social change.

  • Ils van Looveren, painter and intuitive speaker (Belgium/Switzerland), sharing her vision of art and intuition as tools for healing.

  • Nathalie Prieto, psychiatrist and forensic doctor (France), on mental health and its connection to justice.

The event concluded with a special panel led by Kristin Hansen, CEO of ELLA Global Community, reflecting on the challenges and achievements toward a more inclusive future.
